Mangesh meaning
Mangesh (मंगेश) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Konkani and Marathi usage).
Shiva as worshipped at Mangeshi in Goa; 'lord of auspiciousness'
Also used to mean: Lord Shiva
Mangesh (मंगेश) is the name of Shiva as he is worshipped at the Mangueshi temple at Priol in Goa, the family deity of many Goud Saraswat Brahmin families; the temple moved to its present site in the sixteenth century. The name is usually explained as maṅgala, "auspicious", and īśa, "lord", giving "lord of auspiciousness", though that reading of the temple's name is not documented in the dictionaries. Name lists give "Lord Shiva". The name is used mainly in Goa and Maharashtra, and the Mangeshkar family of singers took their surname from Mangeshi village. The Marathi poet Mangesh Padgaonkar also bore it.
