Somesh meaning
Somesh (सोमेश) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, सो, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Lord of Soma, the moon (soma + īśa 'lord')
Also used to mean: lord of the moon, lord shiva
Somesh (सोमेश) joins Sanskrit soma with īśa, "lord". Soma is first the sacred juice of the Vedic ritual and then the moon and moon-god, with whom Soma came to be identified, so the name reads "lord of the moon". Monier-Williams does not list someśa itself, but it records the longer someśvara, "lord of Soma", as a name of Kṛṣṇa and of a celebrated liṅga of Śiva set up by Soma, the shrine also called Somanātha. Name lists give Somesh as "lord of the moon" and often link it with Shiva, who wears the crescent moon in his hair.
