Mayank meaning
Mayank (मयंक) is a Hindu boy's name of Hindi origin (from Sanskrit mṛgāṅka).
The moon, literally 'deer-marked'
Mayank (मयंक) is a Hindi word for the moon. Platts's Dictionary of Urdu, Classical Hindi and English traces it through Prakrit to Sanskrit mṛgāṅka, from mṛga, "deer", and aṅka, "mark": the moon as "the deer-spotted one", named for the dark markings on its face. Monier-Williams confirms mṛgāṅka as the moon and adds camphor and the wind as rarer senses. The Sanskrit form itself is not used as a name; Mayank is the softened form that passed through Prakrit into Hindi. Indian name lists give Mayank as "moon", which matches both dictionaries, and it belongs with Chandra, Soma and Shashank among the many moon names.
