Hemchandra meaning
Hemchandra (हेमचन्द्र) is a Hindu and Jain boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, हे, it is a Kark rashi name (Pushya nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Decorated with a golden crescent; name of a celebrated Jain scholar
Also used to mean: golden moon
Hemchandra (हेमचन्द्र) joins hema, "gold", and candra, "the moon", which also means shining or glittering, so the popular gloss "golden moon" follows the parts closely. Monier-Williams records hema-candra as an adjective for a chariot decorated with a golden crescent, and as the name of a king and of the great Jain scholar Hemacandra, who lived from 1089 to 1173, taught King Kumārapāla of Gujarat and wrote Sanskrit and Prakrit grammars and dictionaries. The name is used in both Hindu and Jain families.
