Balpreet (ਬਲਪ੍ਰੀਤ) is a modern Punjabi compound of bal and prīt. Bal, from Sanskrit bala, means strength or power in the Mahan Kosh, and the word occurs in the Guru Granth Sahib (for example Ang 93). Prīt, from Sanskrit prīti, is love or affection, and also delight; it is also an element of Sikh names such as Gurpreet and Harpreet. Read together, the parts give "strength and love". The full name is a modern formation and does not occur in the scripture. Like many Sikh names it is given to both boys and girls, completed by Singh or Kaur.
