Chakor meaning
Chakor (चकोर) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
The Greek partridge, fabled to live on moonbeams
Also used to mean: a bird that loves the moon
Chakor (चकोर) is the Sanskrit cakora, a partridge. Monier-Williams gives it as the Greek partridge, "fabled to subsist on moonbeams", and notes that poets call an eye drinking in a moon-like face a cakora. In Indian poetry and film songs the chakor gazing all night at the moon is the classic picture of faithful longing. Baby-name lists give the name as "a bird that loves the moon" or "a bird seeking the moon", which follows the dictionary and the poetic tradition. Chakori is the feminine form used for girls.
