Himank (हिमांक) is Sanskrit himāṅka, from hima, "cold, snow", and aṅka, "mark". Monier-Williams gives it a single sense, camphor, prized for its cooling touch. Name lists today usually give "the moon", and sometimes "camphor" or "freezing point". The moon reading has a real basis, since hima on its own can mean the moon, the cool one, but the compound himāṅka is recorded only as camphor. "Freezing point" is a modern Hindi and Nepali use of the word. It is a modern-sounding name with a genuine Sanskrit word behind it.
