Shiladitya meaning
Shiladitya (शीलादित्य) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
'sun of virtue'; the name of various kings
Shiladitya (शीलादित्य) joins śīla, "character, good conduct, virtue", with āditya, "the sun". Monier-Williams gives it as "sun of virtue" and as the name of various kings. The best known is Harṣa of Kannauj, whom the Chinese pilgrim Xuanzang described under the title Śīlāditya in the seventh century. Some name lists give "stone sun", confusing śīla with śilā, "stone"; the dictionary supports "sun of virtue". It is a dignified, old-fashioned name heard mostly in Bengal.
