Dilpreet meaning
Dilpreet (ਦਿਲਪ੍ਰੀਤ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Dil (heart) joined with prīti (love)
Dilpreet (ਦਿਲਪ੍ਰੀਤ) joins two words found in Sikh scripture. Dil comes from Persian, and the Mahan Kosh gives it as the physical heart, the mind or inner conscience, and a resolve or thought; it occurs in the Guru Granth Sahib, for example at Ang 64. Preet, from Sanskrit prīti, is love, a word the Gurus use often for love of the Divine, as at Ang 82. Together they give "love of the heart" or "heartfelt love", which is also how baby-name lists render it. The compound itself is a modern name rather than a phrase from scripture, built the same way as Gurpreet and Harpreet. It is used for both boys and girls, with Singh or Kaur showing which.
