Gideon meaning
Gideon is a Christian boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Feller, that is, warrior; from gada, 'to cut down'
Also used to mean: mighty warrior, hewer
Gideon comes from Hebrew Gid'on, which Strong's Concordance derives from a verb meaning 'to hew down', glossing the name 'feller, that is, warrior'. In Judges 6 an angel greets him as a 'mighty man of valour', and with only three hundred men, armed with trumpets and torches in jars, he routs the Midianites. Name lists usually give 'mighty warrior' or 'hewer'. Gideon is used by Christian families in South India and the Northeast, especially in Protestant churches.
