In the Quran: 52:19 (hanīʾan (هَنِيٓـًٔا)) · checked 25 Oct 2026
Haniya (ہانیہ) is usually taken as the Arabic hāniʾa, a feminine form from the root h-n-ʾ. Lane uses this root of food or drink that is wholesome and pleasant, taken with enjoyment and with a good result, easy to swallow and quick to digest. The Quran uses the related hanīʾan when the people of Paradise are told to eat and drink with enjoyment as a reward for their deeds (52:19). Name lists give Haniya as "happy", "joyful" or "delighted". The classical sense is closer to "pleasant" and "enjoyed with ease", so "happy" is best read as a modern widening of the root's meaning. The name is also spelled Haniyah or Haniyya.
