Hira meaning
Hira (हीरा) is a Hindu and Muslim girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, ही, it is a Kark rashi name (Punarvasu nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A diamond; also a name of Lakṣmī
Hira (हीरा) is the everyday Hindi word for a diamond, from Sanskrit hīra. Monier-Williams gives hīra as a diamond and, from the old lexicons, also a thunderbolt, a lion, a string of pearls and a name of Shiva. The feminine hīrā is recorded as a name of Lakshmi, which links the girls' name to the goddess of fortune and beauty. The longer hīraka, with the same meaning, gives the boys' name Hirak. In Muslim families Hira is chosen for a separate reason: Ḥirāʾ is the cave near Mecca where, in Islamic tradition, the Prophet Muhammad received the first verses of the Qurʾān. The two names sound alike but come from unrelated words.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Lakshmi.
