Hriday meaning
Hriday (हृदय) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
The heart; soul, mind; the core or essence
Hriday (हृदय) is the Sanskrit word hṛdaya, 'the heart'. In Monier-Williams the heart is more than an organ: it is the seat of feelings and sensations and of the mind's workings, so the word also means soul and mind. By extension it is the centre, core or essence of anything, its best, dearest or most secret part, and in later use even true or divine knowledge. That sense of 'essence' explains titles such as the Prajñāpāramitā-hṛdaya, the Buddhist Heart Sutra, which condenses the Perfection of Wisdom teachings into a very short text. The same word is used for the heart in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi and many other Indian languages, so the name is understood across India. Hridaya is a closely related spelling.
