Japnoor meaning
Japnoor (ਜਪਨੂਰ) is a Sikh girl's name of Punjabi origin (Sanskrit jap + Arabic nūr), also used for boys.
Jap (meditation on God's Name) joined with nūr (light)
Japnoor (ਜਪਨੂਰ) joins jap, meditation on God's Name, with nūr, light. The Mahan Kosh describes jap as repeating the Name, aloud, in a whisper or silently in the mind, and the first composition in the Guru Granth Sahib is the Japu or Japji. Nūr is Arabic for light and radiance, which the Mahan Kosh also lists as a name of the Creator; Kabir uses it of the one light from which all creation came (Ang 1349). The name reads "the light of meditation". It is a modern name, used mostly for girls and sometimes for boys in Sikh families, alongside Gurnoor and Jasnoor. The full name is not a Mahan Kosh headword, so its meaning is read from its two parts.
