Leandro meaning
Leandro is an international and Christian boy's name of Greek origin (Spanish, Portuguese and Italian form).
Lion-man: Greek leōn, "lion", and anēr, "man"
Also used to mean: lion of a man
Leandro is the Spanish, Portuguese and Italian form of Leander. The Online Etymology Dictionary traces it to Greek Leiandros, "lion-man", from leōn, "lion", and anēr, "man". In Greek legend Leander was the young man of Abydos who swam across the Hellespont every night to visit Hero, until he drowned. The name also belonged to Saint Leander, archbishop of Seville around the year 600, who helped bring the Visigothic king Reccared into the Catholic Church and whose brother Isidore succeeded him. It is said lee-AN-droh, or leh-AHN-droh in Spanish.
