Christian meaning
Christian is an international and Christian boy's name of Greek origin (via Latin).
A follower of Christ
Christian is the Greek word Christianos, "a follower of Christ", formed from Christos, "the anointed one". Strong's Concordance (G5546) lists its three New Testament uses, beginning with Acts 11:26, which says that the disciples were first called Christians at Antioch. As a personal name it has long been used in Europe: the Online Etymology Dictionary notes it was common in medieval Brittany, and several kings of Denmark have borne it. In India it is used by Christian families, though parents should know that it is also the everyday word for a member of the faith.
