Elio meaning
Elio is an international boy's name of Italian origin (from Greek and Latin).
Sun: Greek Hēlios via Latin Helius; also Roman Aelius
Elio is an Italian name with two roots. Italian name dictionaries trace it mainly to Latin Helius, from Greek hēlios, which Liddell and Scott's Greek lexicon gives as "the sun" and, as a proper name, Helios, the sun god. It also continues Aelius, the name of a Roman family to which the emperor Hadrian belonged; Lewis & Short record Aelius without any meaning. So the popular meaning "sun" has good support, though not every Elio goes back to it. Well-known bearers include the Belgian politician Elio Di Rupo and the novelist Elio Vittorini, and Elio Perlman narrates Call Me by Your Name. It is said EL-ee-oh.
