Leon meaning
Leon is an international boy's name of Greek origin.
A lion; also the constellation Leo
Leon is the Greek word for a lion. Liddell, Scott and Jones show that Greek writers from Homer onward used leōn for brave and for fierce men as well as for the animal, and that it also named the constellation we call Leo. The Latin form Leo comes from the same word. Leon has been a personal name since ancient Greece and is used today across Europe, as Léon in France and León in Spain. Baby-name lists give 'lion', the plain meaning of the word. It is said LEE-on and suits Indian surnames well.
