Lucia meaning
Lucia is an international and Christian girl's name of Latin origin.
Feminine of Lucius, from lux, "light"; "of the day"
Lucia is the Latin feminine of Lucius, one of the oldest Roman first names. Lewis & Short derive Lucius from lux, "light", glossing it "of the day", and cite the Roman scholar Varro, who said the name was given to children born at first light. Lucia is also the name of St Lucy of Syracuse, a young Christian martyred around 304, whose feast on 13 December is kept with candles and processions of light in Sweden and Italy. In Italian it is said loo-CHEE-uh, in English LOO-see-uh. Indian families may like that its meaning, light, echoes names such as Jyoti and Roshni.
