Grace meaning
Grace is a Christian and international girl's name of English origin (from Latin).
The favour and mercy of God; also easy elegance
Grace is an English word name, from French grâce and Latin gratia, which goes back to gratus, "beloved, dear, agreeable". Webster's 1913 dictionary gives its theological sense as the favour of God toward people, his mercy and pardon, and a general sense of easy elegance of manners and beauty of form; the short prayer of thanks said before a meal is also called grace. In the New Testament the Greek word usually translated "grace" is charis, "grace, favour" (Strong's G5485). English Puritans used Grace regularly as a virtue name from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, and it has stayed in use ever since. Baby-name lists give "God's favour" or "grace", matching the dictionary.
