Marina meaning
Marina is a Christian girl's name of Latin origin.
Of or belonging to the sea (Latin marinus)
Also used to mean: of the sea
Marina is understood as the feminine of Latin marinus, which Lewis & Short define as "of or belonging to the sea", from mare, "sea"; some scholars think it began as the feminine of the Roman family name Marinus. It was the name of several early Christian women saints, and in the Greek and Syriac churches Saint Margaret of Antioch, the virgin martyr, is honoured as Saint Marina. Though it sounds close to Maria, it is a separate name. In India Marina is used by Christian families in Kerala, Goa and Mangalore, and Chennai's long seafront, Marina Beach, gives the word a familiar ring.
