Marjan meaning
Marjan (مرجان) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic and Persian origin (Urdu usage).
Coral; small pearls
Marjan (مرجان) is the Arabic and Persian word for coral. Steingass's dictionary gives marjān as a tiny pearl and as coral, with compounds such as marjān-dāna, "a coral bead", and marjān-parwarda, a poetic image for a beloved's lips. The Quran uses the word twice in Surah ar-Rahman: pearls and coral come out of the two seas (55:22), and the maidens of Paradise are likened to rubies and coral (55:58). Commentators differ on whether it means small pearls or red coral. Name lists give Marjan as "coral". In Persian it is a girl's name; in the Balkans Marjan is an unrelated boy's name.
