Mukesh meaning
Mukesh (मुकेश) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Meaning today
Lord Shiva, conqueror of the demon Muka
In the dictionaries
We haven't confirmed a dictionary meaning for the name itself. The meaning above is how families commonly use it.
Mukesh (मुकेश) clearly ends in īśa, "lord", but the first part is uncertain, and the name does not appear in Monier-Williams. Indian name lists usually give it as a name of Shiva, explained as "conqueror of the demon Muka". Monier-Williams does record a Mūka who was a Dānava in the Mahabharata, but that name has a long ū, while Mukesh has a short u, so the link is doubtful. Other popular readings, such as "lord of liberation", also lack dictionary support, so we leave the meaning open. A famous bearer was the playback singer Mukesh (1923–1976), one of the best-loved voices of Hindi cinema.
