Pallavi meaning
Pallavi (पल्लवी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
From pallava: a sprout, shoot, young leaf, bud
Also used to mean: new leaves, opening verse of a song
Pallavi (पल्लवी) is a feminine name formed from Sanskrit pallava, "a sprout, shoot, twig, spray, bud, blossom". Monier-Williams notes that poets used pallava figuratively for slender fingers, toes and lips, and the dictionary also records a verb made from it, meaning "to put forth young shoots". The form pallavī is not itself entered there. In South Indian classical music the pallavi is the opening section of a composition, the refrain to which the song keeps returning, and some name lists give that meaning as well. Most give Pallavi as "new leaves" or "budding shoot", in line with the Sanskrit word.
