Poppy meaning
Poppy is an international girl's name of English origin (from Latin).
The poppy flower; Old English popæg, from Latin papaver
Poppy is the English name of the red flower and a well-loved girl's name in England. The Online Etymology Dictionary traces it to Old English popæg or popig, from a late form of Latin papaver, the poppy, a word whose origin is uncertain. After the First World War the red field poppy, which grew over the battlefields of Flanders, became the British and Commonwealth symbol of remembrance, worn every November. Poppy is cheerful and short, and is also used as a pet name in English families. It is said POP-ee and fits easily with Indian surnames.
