Raj meaning
Raj (राज) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, रा, it is a Tula rashi name (Chitra nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A king, sovereign, chief; the best of its kind
Also used to mean: kingdom, rule
Raj (राज) comes from Sanskrit rāja, the form that rājan, "king", takes at the end of compounds, as in mahārāja, "great king". Monier-Williams gives it as a king, sovereign or chief, and also the best of its kind, so a word like gajarāja is "king of elephants". In Hindi rāj also means rule or kingdom, from the related Sanskrit rājya, which is why name lists give both "king" and "kingdom". Raj works on its own and as the first or last part of many names, such as Rajesh, Rajveer and Yuvraj, and is used by Hindu, Sikh and Jain families.
