Gurudatt meaning
Gurudatt (गुरुदत्त) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Given by the guru (from guru, teacher, and datta, given)
Also used to mean: gift of the guru
Gurudatt (गुरुदत्त) joins Sanskrit guru and datta. Monier-Williams gives guru as any venerable person and, above all, a spiritual parent or teacher, and datta as given, granted or presented. Together they mean "given by the guru", which is how name lists give it. Datta is also a short name for Dattātreya, whom many families in Maharashtra and Karnataka worship as the divine guru, so the name can be heard as "Guru Datta" too. The film director Guru Dutt (1925–1964), maker of Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool, made the spelling famous.
