Rigved meaning
Rigved (ऋग्वेद) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
The Ṛgveda, 'Veda of praise', oldest sacred book of the Hindus
Also used to mean: rigveda, knowledge of hymns
Rigved (ऋग्वेद) is the name of the Ṛgveda, from ṛc, "a hymn or verse of praise", and veda, "knowledge". Monier-Williams explains it as the "Veda of praise", the oldest sacred book of the Hindus, with 1017 hymns, or 1028 with the supplementary Vālakhilya hymns, arranged in ten books. Naming a child Rigved honours that ancient tradition of learning and praise. Name lists give "the Rigveda" or "knowledge of hymns". In Maharashtra the name is usually spelt Rugved, following the Marathi pronunciation.
