Regina meaning
Regina is a Christian girl's name of Latin origin.
A queen
Regina is the Latin word for 'queen', the feminine of rex, 'king'. Lewis & Short show it used of real queens such as Cleopatra and Dido, as a title of goddesses like Juno, and figuratively of anything that reigns supreme, as when Cicero calls justice the queen of the virtues. Christians gave it a new meaning through Mary: the Easter hymn 'Regina Caeli' greets her as Queen of Heaven, and the Salve Regina is sung at the close of the day. In India Regina is used in Catholic families, often as a way of honouring Mary.
