Rutvij meaning
Rutvij (ऋत्विज) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Sacrificing at the proper time; a Vedic priest
Rutvij (ऋत्विज) is Sanskrit ṛtv-ij, from ṛtu, "the proper time, season", and yaj, "to worship, to sacrifice": one who performs the sacrifice at the right time. Monier-Williams gives it as a priest, usually one of the four chief priests of the Vedic ritual, the Hotṛ, Adhvaryu, Brahman and Udgātṛ, each with three helpers. It is the same word as Ritvik, which comes from its nominative form ṛtvik. Name lists give "priest", matching the dictionary. Rutvij is used mainly in Maharashtra.
