We haven't confirmed a dictionary meaning for the name itself. The meaning above is how families commonly use it.
Teesta (तीस्ता, Bengali তিস্তা) is a girls' name taken from the Teesta river, which rises in the eastern Himalaya in Sikkim, runs south through Sikkim and West Bengal, and joins the Jamuna in Bangladesh. Name lists simply give it as "a river". The origin of the river's name is uncertain: India's Central Water Commission says it literally means trishna, "desire", that never ends, but we could not confirm this in a dictionary, and the Sanskrit trisrotas, "three-streamed", is not linked to the Teesta in Monier-Williams. The civil-rights activist Teesta Setalvad is a well-known bearer.
