Bipasha meaning
Bipasha (बिपाशा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
The Beas river (Sanskrit vipāśā); vipāśa, freed from fetters
Also used to mean: river beas
Bipasha (बिपाशा) is the Bengali way of saying Sanskrit Vipāśā, the old name of the Beas, one of the five rivers of the Punjab. Monier-Williams gives the adjective vi-pāśa as "unnoosed, freed from fetters", and records the story told to explain the river's name: the river broke the cords with which the sage Vasishtha, in his grief, had tried to end his life. The Greek historians knew the river as the Hyphasis. Baby-name lists give the name as "the river Beas". The actress Bipasha Basu made the name known across India.
