Jamuna meaning
Jamuna (जमुना) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Hindi form of Yamunā).
The river Yamuna
Jamuna (जमुना) is the everyday Hindi form of Yamunā, the sacred river that rises in the Himalayas and meets the Ganga at Prayagraj. Monier-Williams records Yamunā from the Rigveda onward and notes that later texts identify the river with Yamī, the twin sister of Yama. The Yamuna flows past Mathura and Vrindavan, so it is woven into the stories of Krishna's childhood, which is part of its appeal as a name. Name lists simply give "the river Yamuna". The same name is spelt Yamuna in South India.
