Thamizhini (தமிழினி) is a modern Tamil girls' name formed from tamiḻ with the feminine ending -iṉi, the same ending found in Yazhini and Magizhini. The Tamil Lexicon of the University of Madras gives tamiḻ first as sweetness or melodiousness and as refinement, and then as the Tamil language, its literature, the Tamil people and the Tamil country. A girl named Thamizhini is thus named for the language itself, with its old associations of sweetness, and the name expresses pride in Tamil culture. Boys' names such as Tamizhselvan and Tamizharasan are built on the same word. We found no widely shared name-list gloss for Thamizhini itself.
