Waris meaning
Waris (وارث) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
An heir, an inheritor
Waris (وارث) is the Arabic wārith, "an heir", from waritha, "to inherit", with the th pronounced s in Urdu. Lane's lexicon defines it as an heir, and quotes a prayer of the Prophet asking that his hearing and sight be made "the heir" of him, that is, last as long as he lives. The Quran uses the word in its rules of inheritance (2:233) and, in the plural, of God as the one who inherits all things (15:23). Waris Shah, the eighteenth-century Punjabi Sufi poet of Heer, is a celebrated bearer.
