Basharat meaning
Basharat (بشارت) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Joyful tidings, good news; a happy dream or vision
Also used to mean: glad tidings
Basharat (بشارت) is the Urdu and Persian form of Arabic bishāra, from the root b-sh-r. Steingass defines it as joyful tidings or happy news, and also a happy dream or vision. Lane explains that the root's words for good news first meant news that changes the look of the listener's face (bashara, the skin), and gives bushrā and bishāra as glad tidings. Name lists give "good news", which matches the dictionaries. In India the name is used mainly for boys, and it is known through the Kashmiri journalist Basharat Peer, author of the memoir Curfewed Night.
