Yazhan meaning
Yazhan (யாழன்) is a Tamil boy's name.
From yāḻ, the ancient Tamil stringed instrument
Yazhan (யாழன்) is a modern Tamil boys' name formed from yāḻ, with the masculine ending -aṉ; its sister name for girls is Yazhini. The Tamil Lexicon of the University of Madras describes the yāḻ as a stringed instrument and names four kinds, the pēriyāḻ, cakōṭayāḻ, makarayāḻ and ceṅkōṭṭiyāḻ. Often described in English as a harp, it is the instrument of the bards of Sangam poetry, and the city of Jaffna, Yāḻppāṇam in Tamil, is traditionally said to take its name from a yāḻ player. Read as a name, Yazhan suggests a musician, one linked with the yāḻ. Yāḻaṉ is not itself in the Lexicon, so it is a modern formation from a well-attested word.
