Aarohi meaning
Aarohi (आरोही) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Ascending, mounting; one who mounts or rides
Also used to mean: a musical tune
Aarohi (आरोही) comes from Sanskrit ārohin, "ascending, mounting", and also "one who mounts or rides". It belongs with āroha, "ascent, rising", from the verb ā-ruh, "to climb". In Hindi and Urdu the word has a musical sense as well: Rekhta's dictionary gives ārohī as the rising notes in South Asian classical music, where every raga has an ascending line of notes (āroh) and a descending one (avaroh). That explains why Indian name lists give Aarohi both as "ascending" and as "a musical tune". The older Sanskrit dictionaries, Monier-Williams and Apte, record only the sense of climbing and rising, so the musical meaning comes from later usage. Strictly, ārohī is the masculine form in Sanskrit, but in modern use the name is given to girls.
