Abraham meaning
Abraham is a Christian and international boy's name of Hebrew origin.
Father of a multitude
Also used to mean: father of many nations
Abraham is the name God gives to Abram in Genesis 17, explained there as 'a father of many nations'. Strong's Concordance analyses it as ab, 'father', joined to a root that probably means 'to be populous', hence 'father of a multitude'. Abraham is the patriarch honoured by Jews, Christians and Muslims, the father of Isaac and grandfather of Jacob. Among Kerala's Syrian Christians the name has been used for centuries, both as Abraham and in the older Malayalam form Avirah, and it is also used as a surname in South India.
