Alina meaning
Alina (الینا) is a Muslim and international girl's name.
Meaning today
Noble, light, beautiful
In the dictionaries
The name isn't in the classical dictionaries we use, so it is most likely a modern name. The meaning above is how families commonly use it.
Alina is used by Muslim families in India and Pakistan, written الینا or علینہ in Urdu, but we could not trace it to an Arabic, Persian or Turkic word in Lane's Arabic lexicon or Steingass's Persian dictionary. It is also a European name, usually explained as a Latinate form of Aline, a Germanic short form of Adelina, "noble"; a link with Greek Helen and "light" has also been proposed. Indian name lists give "noble", "light" or "beautiful", and one Islamic answer site gives "clear, beautiful" for the spelling Alinah, but none of these rests on a dictionary entry we could check. Its meaning is best treated as uncertain.
