Deivanai meaning
Deivanai (தெய்வானை) is a Tamil girl's name.
A consort of Skanda (Murugan); literally Indra's divine elephant
Also used to mean: celestial maiden, goddess
Deivanai (தெய்வானை) is the Tamil name of Devasena, the consort of Murugan. The Tamil Lexicon lists teyvayāṉai with two senses: Airāvata, Indra's divine elephant, and a wife of Skanda, quoting the Kandapuranam line that Indra gave her to Kumara. Teyvam means divine and yāṉai an elephant, and the tradition explains that Indra's daughter was so named because Airāvata raised her. She married Murugan at Thiruparankundram near Madurai. Name lists call her a celestial maiden or goddess, which describes her rather than translates the word. It is a traditional name among Murugan devotees.
