Ehtesham meaning
Ehtesham (احتشام) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (Persian and Urdu usage).
Bashfulness; in Persian and Urdu, pomp, retinue, magnificence, grandeur
Also used to mean: dignity, respect, glory
Ehtesham (احتشام) is Arabic iḥtishām, a verbal noun from the root ḥ-sh-m. Lane's lexicon gives the Arabic verb iḥtashama as to feel shame or bashfulness, to be abashed. In Persian and Urdu the word took on a second set of meanings: Steingass defines iḥtishām as bashfulness, but also as having many dependants and followers, and so pomp, retinue, magnificence and grandeur. Name lists give "dignity", "respect" or "glory", which follow the Persian sense. A well-known bearer was Syed Ehtesham Husain (1912–1972), the Marxist Urdu critic who taught at Lucknow and Allahabad universities.
