Gianna meaning
Gianna is an international and Christian girl's name of Hebrew origin (via Italian).
Italian short form of Giovanna (Joanna): 'Yahweh has been gracious'
Also used to mean: God is gracious
Gianna is an Italian short form of Giovanna, the feminine of Giovanni, which is the Italian John. John comes from the Hebrew Yehochanan, made of the divine name and the verb chanan, "to be gracious"; Strong's concordance translates it as "Jehovah-favoured" and the Brown-Driver-Briggs lexicon as "Yahweh has been gracious", so name lists give Gianna as "God is gracious". Saint Gianna Beretta Molla, an Italian paediatrician who died in 1962 shortly after giving birth to her fourth child and was canonised in 2004, is a patron of mothers and physicians. It is pronounced JAH-nuh or jee-AH-nuh.
