Girija meaning
Girija (गिरिजा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Mountain-born; Parvati, daughter of the Himalaya
Girija (गिरिजा) is Sanskrit girijā, "born of the mountain", from giri, "mountain", and -jā, "born". Monier-Williams gives it as a name of the goddess Parvati, daughter of the personified Himalaya, citing the Bhagavata Purana and the Kathasaritsagara; the same word also names several mountain plants. Parvati's own name, "of the mountain", carries the same idea. Girija is a girls' name used across India. A famous bearer was Girija Devi (1929–2017), the Banaras singer known as the queen of thumri.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Parvati.
