Gunwant meaning
Gunwant (गुणवंत) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Endowed with good qualities; excellent
Gunwant (गुणवंत) comes from Sanskrit guṇavat, whose strong stem is guṇavant-. It is formed from guṇa, "quality, virtue", with the suffix -vat, "possessing", so it means "endowed with good qualities". Monier-Williams gives that sense and, in epic use, "excellent, perfect", and also a literal sense, "furnished with a thread", because guṇa first meant a thread or strand. Hindi has kept the word as guṇvant, a person with many good qualities. Baby-name lists give "virtuous", which matches the dictionary. The name is also spelt Gunvant, and the matching feminine form in Sanskrit is guṇavatī.
