Ved meaning
Ved (वेद) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, वे, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Mrigashira nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Knowledge, sacred knowledge; the Vedas
Ved (वेद) is the Sanskrit veda, a noun formed from the root vid, "to know". Monier-Williams gives its first sense as knowledge, especially true or sacred knowledge, and then as the name of the sacred texts at the base of early Hindu religion: the Ṛg-, Yajur- and Sāma-veda, with the Atharva-veda added later. Because there are four Vedas, the word also came to stand for the number four. The same dictionary records a Veda who was a pupil of the sage Āyoda in the Mahabharata. As a boy's name Ved is short and direct, and parents usually mean exactly what the dictionary says: knowledge, and the Vedas themselves.
