Helen meaning
Helen is a Christian girl's name of Greek origin.
Probably 'the bright one' (Greek Helenē)
Also used to mean: light, torch
Helen comes through French Hélène and Latin Helena from Greek Helenē. The Online Etymology Dictionary explains it as probably the feminine of helenos, "the bright one", though the origin is not certain; the popular glosses "light" and "torch" grow from the same idea. In Greek legend Helen of Troy, wife of Menelaus of Sparta, was the woman whose flight with Paris began the Trojan War. Christians know the name through Saint Helena, mother of Constantine, who is linked with the finding of the True Cross in Jerusalem. In India it was made famous by Helen, the Hindi film actress and dancer.
