Jasnoor meaning
Jasnoor (ਜਸਨੂਰ) is a Sikh girl's name of Punjabi origin, also used for boys.
Jas (praise, renown) joined with nūr (light)
Jasnoor (ਜਸਨੂਰ) is a modern Punjabi compound of jas, praise or renown, and nūr, light. Jas comes from Sanskrit yaśas and occurs in the Japji. Nūr is an Arabic word that the Mahan Kosh glosses as light, brightness and splendour, and also as a name of God as the form of light. It cites Kabir's well-known line in the Guru Granth Sahib saying that the whole world came forth from one light, so who can be called good or bad. The combined name, usually rendered 'light of praise' or 'light of glory', does not itself occur in the scripture. It is mostly given to Sikh girls, as Jasnoor Kaur, and pairs naturally with sister names such as Jasleen.
