Jaspreet meaning
Jaspreet (ਜਸਪ੍ਰੀਤ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Jas (praise, renown) joined with prīti (love)
Jaspreet (ਜਸਪ੍ਰੀਤ) joins jas, praise, honour or renown, with prīt, love. Jas comes from Sanskrit yaśas and occurs in the Japji, where a good name is said to bring praise and renown in the world. Prīti is defined in the Mahan Kosh as love, affection and fondness, and also as contentment, joy and gladness. The usual reading is 'love of praise'. Sikh name lists often expand it to 'one who loves to sing God's praises', which suits the devotional use of jas in the scripture, though the two words do not themselves name God. The compound is modern and is not found in the Guru Granth Sahib. Jaspreet is used for both boys and girls, with Singh or Kaur.
