Kailashnath (कैलाशनाथ) means "lord of Kailāsa", the Himalayan peak that Monier-Williams describes as the residence of Kubera and the paradise of Śiva. In everyday use, and on every name list, Kailashnath means Lord Shiva, whose home on Kailash is central to Hindu belief; the eighth-century rock-cut Kailasa temple at Ellora and the Kailasanatha temple at Kanchipuram are dedicated to him. Monier-Williams, however, records kailāsanātha itself as a name of Kubera, the god of wealth, who also lives on the mountain. Both readings rest on the same literal meaning.
